WASHINGTON — Stan Kasten is leaving the Nationals after 4 1/2 years as team president, announcing that he will resign at the end of the season.

“It’s just time to be doing something else,” Kasten said.

Honoring Lowell

BOSTON — The Red Sox will honor retiring Mike Lowell, the MVP of their 2007 World Series victory, before playing the Yankees on Oct. 2 at Fenway Park.

Winter wonderland

CLEVELAND — The Indians announced plans to bring in up to 150 tons of snow each day for fans to frolic in at Progressive Field while counting down the days until spring. The “Snow Days” will run from Nov. 26 to Jan. 2.
