West Metro firefighters are crediting fast-acting neighbors with rescuing an elderly couple from their Lakewood home after flames broke out in the couple’s garage Saturday.
Neighbors noticed smoke and flames coming from the garage of a home in the 1400 block of South Wright Street shortly after noon. They called 911 but also went inside the home to help the couple escape.
Firefighters responded and attacked the garage fire, keeping it from reaching inside the home. The garage and a car inside it were destroyed.
The couple suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to the hospital.
