MEEKER, Colo.—Federal fire officials plan to conduct a prescribed burn in northwest Colorado near Aldrich Lakes this week, if the weather is favorable.
The 800-acre burn is planned Monday, 19 miles northeast of Meeker and about 19 miles south of Craig.
Land managers say fuels for a wildfire have been building in the area after years of being untouched by fire. They hope the prescribed burn will reduce the amount of vegetation that could fuel a catastrophic wildfire and stimulate new plant production.
