FORT COLLINS, Colo.—An attorney for a Fort Collins police officer accused of lying in a murder case says there’s not enough evidence to try his client.
The Coloradoan reports that a judge approved a request Tuesday by Lt. Jim Broderick’s attorney for a hearing before Broderick’s arraignment. The hearing was set for Dec. 1.
A Larimer County grand jury indicted Broderick on eight counts of first-degree perjury in the investigation of Timothy Masters. Broderick is on paid leave from the police department.
Masters served nearly a decade in prison in the stabbing death of a Fort Collins woman before his conviction was overturned by DNA evidence. Fort Collins and Larimer County agreed to pay a total of $10 million to settle a lawsuit by Masters.
