A horse trailer being pulled by a 2006 Ford pickup rolled near Evergreen early this afternoon, according to local and state authorities.
Nate Reid, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol, said the female driver of the pickup was not seriously injured but was taken to St. Anthony Central as a precaution. A horse was critically injured and had to be put down by responding officers.
Reid said the accident occurred on Jefferson County Road 65 about half a mile south of Interstate 70.
Janice Thulin, who lives about 100 yards from the scene of the accident, said it appeared that the driver had attempted to turn around in a driveway of a home and that the trailer became unhitched and rolled.
Thulin said she heard a loud thud and jumped into her car to reach the accident scene.
