The Buffs from the 1990 national championship team have one bit of unfinished business at Folsom Field two decades after winning college football’s ultimate prize. They want coach Bill McCartney honored with his name on the field.
“I think it would be very appropriate,” former wide receiver Mike Pritchard said. “He’s done so much for that program and school.”
Eric Bieniemy said: “You don’t realize how important people are until you are away from them. He had a big influence on me, not only personally but on the entire team.”
It makes sense to everyone — except McCartney.
“Whatever happens, I’ve been more than blessed and honored way beyond anything I deserve,” he said last week. “I had that privilege and opportunity to be around those guys.”
