The Denver Elections Division on Thursday approved a group’s paperwork to begin a recall effort against Denver school board member Andrea Merida.
The group had attempted two other times to begin the process, but each time the Elections Division rejected the application because of paperwork problems. The group resubmitted its paperwork this week. The group now has 60 days to collect 4,342 signatures from registered voters in Merida’s district in southwest Denver.
If signatures are successfully obtained, the question would then go onto the ballot, probably in a special election, along with names of candidates to replace her if the recall is approved. Merida was elected in November, beating her opponent by 116 votes.
