BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado has filed a formal request with the state seeking to increase its in-state tuition by up to 9.5 percent next year.
The Daily Camera reports the request filed Friday also outlines plans for four more years of increases as high as 9 percent.
CU officials say the request allows the university to keep its options open if state funding keeps dropping.
A new state law allows universities to set their tuition. It requires government oversight if schools propose raising tuition more than 9 percent in a single year for in-state undergraduates.
A 9.5 percent increase would add $667 to undergraduate tuition in the College of Arts and Sciences, which enrolls most students. The annual bill would be $7,685.
