The Rockies have seen some of their young players take quantum leaps this season. Now they’re hoping Dexter Fowler’s solid play on the road down the stretch is a sign that he’s turning a corner. Fowler had two hits in each of the last three games vs. the Cardinals, improving his road batting average to .264 since the all-star break. He hit .193 on the road before the break.
Feeling relieved.
Jeff Francis made his first career relief appearance, allowing two runs and four hits in two innings. He had made 149 appearances in the big leagues, all as a starter. The Rockies won’t exercise a $7.5 million option on Francis for 2011, but he hopes to return for a reduced contract.
Beat me in St. Louis.
The Rockies hit .156 in the four-game season-ending series, scoring two runs in 38 innings. In 81 road games, they scored two runs or fewer 31 times.
