LITTLETON, Colo.—A fire on Lockheed Martin property south of Denver has grown to 250 acres and is expected to smolder for a few days.

The fire reported on a hogback Friday grew overnight and was burning on dense brush and tall grasses on rocky terrain. Fifty horses grazing on a nearby pasture were evacuated. No homes or buildings have been damaged.

West Metro Fire Rescue spokeswoman Michelle French says about 40 firefighters were at the scene Saturday.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Lockheed Martin’s Space Systems Co. on Wadsworth Boulevard builds spacecraft. It is slated to build NASA?s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) orbiter that is scheduled to launch in 2013.
