For the record: UNLV dropped to 1-5 with a 49-10 loss at West Virginia, which moved into this week’s AP poll at No. 25. The Rebels are 1-1 in the Mountain West Conference.
Streaking: UNLV quarterbacks have been sacked 19 times.
Who’s hot: Junior defensive back Will Chandler has four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He played primarily on special teams a year ago.
Who’s not: Phillip Payne, a preseason all-MWC wide receiver who has 23 catches for 389 yards and two touchdowns in five games. Payne’s next game might be in the NFL after he was suspended for the West Virginia game. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported the suspension was over several tweets, including one suggesting former Rebels coach Mike Sanford had the program in better shape.
Key stat: West Virginia needed less than five minutes to lead UNLV 14-0. Air Force led CSU 14-0 in less than six minutes.
FYI: UNLV has played four teams in the current top 25 — West Virginia, Wisconsin, Utah and Nevada, all losses. The lone win: 45-10 over New Mexico. . . . First-year UNLV coach Bobby Hauck was a Colorado assistant from 1995-98.
