For the record: Baylor dropped to 4-2 and saw its Big 12 record squared at 1-1 on Saturday in losing a 45-38 shootout at Texas Tech.
Who’s hot: Bears sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin threw for 384 yards and accounted for four touchdowns against Texas Tech. His 2-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter cut the Red Raiders’ lead to 45-38, but Baylor couldn’t get closer. Griffin leads the Big 12 in total offense with 329 yards per game.
Who’s not: Baylor’s defense yielded 635 yards of offense. Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts passed for 462 yards and four touchdowns, and the Red Raiders were able to run for 173 yards.
Key stat: Baylor is still looking to become bowl-eligible for the first time since the Big 12 was formed. Baylor has not participated in postseason play since losing 10-3 to Washington State in the 1994 Alamo Bowl — two years before the Big 12’s inaugural season.
FYI: Griffin, an Olympic-caliber hurdler, appears fully recovered from the torn ACL he suffered in last season’s third game. But he has not looked to run as much (39.8 yards per game) this season.
