GOLDEN, Colo.—A 24-year-old Colorado man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in the death of his infant son, whom authorities say he left alone to go to a bar.
Joseph Trujillo of Golden was sentenced Wednesday in the death of his son, 5-month-old Adrian. Trujillo pleaded guilty in September to child abuse resulting in death.
Authorities say Trujillo left the baby on the bed, surrounded by pillows and bedding, for seven to eight hours and went drinking with a friend. They say he then went to a friend’s house and a fast-food restaurant.
Prosecutors say Adrian was dead when Trujillo returned home. They believe the baby suffocated.
The baby’s mother was in the Army in Kansas.
