Fat Talk Free Week
Today-Friday: A five-day public-awareness effort sponsored by Tri Delta, The Center for Living, Learning and Leading and several other organizations. The goal is to draw attention to the harmful impact of fat talk and the “thin ideal” on today’s women. Women are invited to visit the website to “make the pledge to spread our message by eliminating ‘fat talk’ from their conversations.”
Fit 4 Colorado School Challenge
CBS4 and HealthONE’s Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children is again offering this program recognizing elementary schools in the metro area that strive to keep students and faculty healthy. This includes in-school and after-school programs, physical education and school nutrition. One school will be selected each month and nominations are accepted through April 1. “Get Fit at the Garden: A Walk for Wellness”

Scream Scram 5K Halloween Run/Walk

Bare Leg Run
Oct. 30: The Denver VA Medical Center presents the second annual Bare Leg Run: Bare Your Legs for Those Who Have Bared Arms, a 5K Walk, Run and Roll at 9 a.m. A 5K handcycling event is new this year. Proceeds are used to send Colorado Veterans to various VA National Events where they can experience adaptive activities. The National Events include the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, National Veterans Golden Age Games, National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, the National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic and the National Veterans TEE Tournament. Denver Gorilla Run
Oct. 30: The seventh annual run to benefit the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund (MGCF) to protect gorillas in the jungles of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Everyone who participates wears a gorilla costume, last year they won the 2009 Guinness World Record for most people dressed as gorillas. Oct. 30: Fitness For Living is hosting a “pumpkin workout” for all levels, 8:45- 10 a.m. Women are encouraged to bring a 5- to 10-pound pumpkin and men 8 to 14 pounds.
