A climber on Taylor Glacier who fell to his death Saturday has been identified as James Charles Patrick, 54, of Littleton.

Patrick was with two other climbers when he fell about 1,000 feet about 11:30 a.m., taking the group’s rope with him, according to Rocky Mountain National Park officials.

The other climbers anchored themselves in place just below the ridgeline between Taylor and Powell peaks until help arrived.

Park rangers reached the man’s body late Saturday afternoon and it remained there until it could be recovered this morning.

Patrick’s death was the fifth fatal fall in Rocky Mountain National Park this year.

The cause is under investigation.
