The Colorado State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Saturday stated formal opposition to Amendment 62, the so-called Personhood Amendment, that would grant constitutional rights to a human being “at the beginning of biological development.

This is the first time the NAACP State Conference has taken a public position on an initiative involving reproductive health, according to “No 62” campaign spokeswoman Cara DeGette.

“This is not about morality, the right and wrong; this is about upholding the Constitution, a woman’s constitutional right to choose,” said NAACP State Conference President Beatrice Madison at its conference in Colorado Springs.
