PIERRE, S.D.—A lawsuit over a wildlife habitat project in the Black Hills National Forest has been moved from Colorado to South Dakota.

Attorney General Marty Jackley argued for the venue change and a federal judge agreed.

The Norbeck Wildlife and Timber Management Project is aimed at improving the habitat on forest land within the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve and reducing the risk of wildfires. Forest Service officials say pine beetles have caused heavy losses of trees, resulting in a high fire hazard.

Environmentalists filed a federal lawsuit in September over the project. Jackley says the outcome of the lawsuit could potentially limit South Dakota’s ability to fight pine beetles in Custer State Park.
