FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A boy is facing a manslaughter charge in the death of a Michigan girl who died when a rock hit her in the northern Colorado resort town of Estes Park.

Larimer County prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against the boy, whose name wasn’t released because he’s a juvenile.

Seventeen-year-old Audra Brownell of Sparta, Mich., was on a church trip to Estes Park in June when she was hit by a rock falling from a ledge in an open space in town. The coroner said she died instantly.

The district attorney’s office tells The Denver Post that the boy charged in the Brownell’s death is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 5. If convicted, the maximum sentence would be two years in a juvenile facility.
