DENVER—Wind turbine maker Vestas plans to lay off some 3,000 workers in Europe but no job cuts are planned in Colorado.
The Danish company announced the layoffs Tuesday as it reported a 24 percent drop in third-quarter earnings amid lower demand in Europe.
Vestas spokesman Andrew Longeteig (Lon-TEEG’) says the company’s Colorado factories have a backlog of orders and operations here will continue as planned.
The company opened a new wind tower factory in Pueblo earlier this month and employs a total of 1,400 people there and at factories in Brighton and Windsor. It plans to open a blade factory in Brighton next year.
