Three groups are challenging the shipment of radioactive waste from Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico to Utah through Colorado.
They contend in a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Denver that the U.S. Department of Energy violated the National Environmental Policy Act by not first assessing environmental impacts in Antonito. Residents say they first learned of the waste-transfer plan when they saw shipments arriving.
