BOULDER — A wildfire that prompted the evacuation of more than 1,800 people in Boulder and the foothills west of the city has been fully contained.
Officials said frost covered the burned area Monday night.
Two fires that erupted Friday merged into one and scorched 84 acres. They started near an area where a wildfire burned nearly 10 square miles and destroyed 169 structures in September.
Authorities believe the fire was human-caused because it started in city open space with two campfire pits and a heavily used hiking trail nearby.
The Daily Camera reported that Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle has asked city officials about sharing the cost of fighting the fire, which could total between $500,000 and $600,000.
