GRAND JUNCTION — Mesa County officials say more than 1,300 home foreclosures have been filed so far this year, already surpassing the total for all of last year.

Mesa County Public Trustee Paul Brown told county commissioners Monday that he expects more than 1,600 home foreclosures in the county by the end of the year. In 2009, a total of 1,291 home foreclosures were filed.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Brown is processing 40 to 45 foreclosures a week and that he has had to hire more employees and pay more overtime to handle the load.

He said the office paid $194,000 in salaries and benefits through the first nine months of 2010, 21 percent more than the same period last year.
