GREELEY, Colo.—A 23-year-old Thornton man is being held in jail following a head-on crash that killed a mother and her baby.

Police allege that Steven Christopher Ryan illegally passed another car Monday and caused the collision that killed the driver of the other car, 23-year-old Tanya Guevara, and her 1-month old baby Adrian. Her three-year-old child was injured but is recovering.

Ryan was arrested by the Colorado State Patrol on two charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, no proof of insurance, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.

That crash occurred at 1:40 p.m. Monday, near the intersection of Colo. 52 and Weld County Road 21, west of Fort Lupton.

Ryan sustained minor injuries.
