A 16-year-old Thunder Ridge High School student died today because of injuries sustained during a rollover accident in Highlands Ranch Monday night.
He has not been named. Three other teenagers in the car were released from hospitals today, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department said.
The four — two 17-year-olds and two 16-year-olds — collectively attended three different schools, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Cocha heyden.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the car rolled twice after it ran off Highlands Ranch Parkway at Venneford Ranch Road at about 7:41 p.m.
The cause is still under investigation.
Heyden said that two of the occupants were not wearing seat belts. She did not know about the other two.
The westbound lanes of Highlands Ranch Road were closed for more than four hours because of the accident, reopening after midnight.
