HAMBURG, Iowa—Authorities say a Colorado man walking on Interstate 29 in southwest Iowa was killed when he was hit by a car.

The Fremont County sheriff’s office told Atlantic radio station KJAN that 52-year-old Mark Torgerson, of Loveland, Colo., was walking in the southbound lane when he was hit near the Iowa Highway 2 interchange.

The accident was reported about 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

The sheriff’s office says a preliminary investigation shows a Nebraska sheriff’s deputy had given Torgerson a ride to a truck stop along the Iowa-Nebraska border earlier in the evening.

Torgerson’s vehicle was later found in Cass County in Nebraska.
