DENVER—State Sen. Chris Romer has filed the necessary documents to form a committee to explore whether to run for mayor of Denver.
The Democrat said in a prepared statement Monday that he’ll consult with his family, constituents, business leaders and party leaders about a potential campaign.
Mayor John Hickenlooper was elected governor last week. He plans to stay on as mayor until his Jan. 11 inauguration to avoid a special election. Deputy Mayor Bill Vidal will then become acting mayor until the regular election in May.
So far, the official candidates to succeed Hickenlooper are Councilman Doug Linkhart, city employee Danny Lopez and James Mejia, executive director of the Denver Preschool Program.
