COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The driver of a Colorado school bus that slid off an icy road, injuring 12 people, has been cited with careless driving causing injury.
The Colorado State Patrol announced the misdemeanor charge against 65-year-old Les Dawson of Simla on Wednesday, a day after the crash near Colorado Springs.
The bus was carrying middle schoolers home from a basketball game when troopers said Dawson lost control and spun counterclockwise after attempting to slow for another vehicle. The bus went off the highway and down an embankment before rolling onto its right side.
If Dawson is found guilty, a judge will determine the penalty.
