Dean Foods, the biggest U.S. dairy processor, reported third-quarter earnings that missed analysts’ estimates as profitability dwindled at the company’s largest unit.

Net income slid 51 percent to $24.3 million, or 13 cents a share, from $49.7 million, or 27 cents, a year earlier, the Dallas-based company said Tuesday in a statement.

That trailed the average estimate for per-share profit of 21 cents from 14 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.
