Xcel Energy projects that its use of natural gas for electricity generation will increase 50 percent to about 75 billion cubic feet annually in 2018 because of the Clean Air-Clean Jobs Act, according to Susan Arigoni, the company’s vice president for fuels.
The act aims to cut Front Range air pollution by having Xcel shut aging coal plants and switch to natural gas.
Arigoni spoke Tuesday to the Western Energy Alliance, a trade group for Rocky Mountain natural-gas producers.
