BOULDER — A Longmont engineer who repeatedly ran into legal trouble for improper explosives has been banned from pursuing chemistry.
Retired electrical engineer Ronald Swerlein received the unusual sentence Friday after his second explosives-possession conviction. Swerlein holds 11 patents but suffered a brain injury in a car wreck and has said he didn’t understand conditions of his previous conviction.
The new sentence calls for a 60-day jail term and for Swerlein to agree to give up chemistry.
