MINNEAPOLIS — Missy Franklin, a sophomore at Regis Jesuit High School, won three more races Sunday in USA Swimming’s Minneapolis Grand Prix to finish the three-day competition with seven victories in seven events.
The 15-year-old had a career best in the 200-yard individual medley, winning in 1 minute, 57.16 seconds. She won the 200 backstroke in 1:53.17, and took the 100 freestyle in 48.50.
Ryan Lochte, a two-time Olympian, won two events Sunday — the 200 individual medley and the 200 backstroke.
Garrigus wins by three strokes
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Robert Garrigus shot an 8-under-par 64 to win the Children’s Miracle Network Classic, allowing him to keep his PGA Tour card.
Garrigus finished three shots clear of Roland Thatcher for his first tour victory. He began the week 122nd in earnings and needed a solid finish to stay inside the top 125 — the cutoff for full PGA Tour status. Thatcher shot a final-round 70 and jumped from 179th to 122nd to keep his playing privileges, blowing a four-stroke lead but keeping his job.
• Stuart Appleby made two long putts in the last three holes for a 6-under 65 to win the Australian Masters in Melbourne, his first victory on home soil in nine years.
Tiger Woods made two eagles over the final four holes and shot 65 to match his best score of the year. He still ended a full year without winning, finishing in fourth place as the defending champion.
• South Korea’s In-Kyung Kim won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico, for her third LPGA Tour title, closing with an 8-under 64 for a three-stroke victory over Suzann Pettersen (68).
• Adam Scott won the Singapore Open for the third time, completing a 3-under 68 today for a three- stroke victory over Denmark’s Anders Hansen.
Force wins 15th funny car title
POMONA, Calif. — John Force won his NHRA-record 15th funny car season championship, completing an improbable comeback from a horrific accident three years ago that left the 61-year-old star’s racing future in serious jeopardy.
Force won the season-ending NHRA Finals for his sixth victory of the year, beating Bob Bode.
Antron Brown (top fuel), Shane Gray (pro stock) and Eddie Krawiec (pro stock motorcycle) won their respective categories.
• Sebastian Vettel became the youngest champion in Formula One history, clinching the title when he won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the United Arab Emirates as Fernando Alonso faltered in the season-ending race.
