DENVER—Colorado’s five major food banks distributed more than 76 million pounds of food last year and are on pace this year to increase that by 7 to 10 percent.

Last year, the food banks saw a 25 percent increase in food given out statewide. The Denver Post reports that the five major groups distributed goods to more than 1,600 partner agencies in all 64 counties in Colorado.

A federal report released this week says 17.7 million households nationwide didn’t have enough food last year. In Colorado, 12.2 percent of the households were considered “food insecure.”
