The Buffalo Creek Trails in Pine, the Edge Loop in Fruita, the Monarch Crest in Poncha Springs and Telegraph Trails in Durango were among the 52 IMBA Epics mountain bike rides selected by the Boulder-based International Mountain Bicycling Association for 2010. The trails selected ranged from Florida to British Columbia, representing the models that shape the advocacy group’s conception of what is possible for recreation on public lands. Denver coach honored.

USA Triathlon has named Denver’s Melissa Mantak as the national coach of the year. A USA Triathlon-certified Level III coach and a former standout athlete on the international level, Mantak guided two of the top U.S. elite triathletes, Matt Chrabot and Jillian Petersen, to top 2010 campaigns.

Chrabot finished the ITU World Championship Series as the top-ranked American and 12th overall. He posted the top WCS finish for a U.S. athlete in 2010 with a fourth- place showing in Kitzbuhel, Austria, and closed his season by earning his second career PATCO Pan American Championship title in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Petersen was third at this year’s Pan American Championship.

Ligety on resort team.

Copper Mountain announced it is among the nine ski areas in the Powdr Corp. family of resorts where Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety will serve as an ambassador. Ligety has been training at Copper for the past week with members of the U.S. Ski Team, preparing for the World Cup season.

Other Powdr Corp. resorts are Park City Mountain Resort and Gorgoza Park, Utah; Killington Resort and Pico Mountain, Vt.; Boreal and Soda Springs, Calif.; Mount Bachelor, Ore.; and Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, Nev.
