BOULDER — Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder, a 6-foot-9, 315-pound senior from Buena Vista, was named Monday as one of three finalists for the 65th Outland Trophy, which is awarded annually by the Football Writers Association of America to the nation’s best offensive or defensive interior lineman.

Joining Solder as finalists are Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi (6-7, 327) and Florida State offensive guard Rodney Hudson (6-2, 282).

The Outland Trophy winner will be announced Dec. 9 on ESPN during the annual Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which originates in Orlando, Fla. It airs 5-7 p.m. Mountain.

Solder also is a finalist for the National Football Foundation’s William V. Campbell Trophy, considered the “Academic Heisman.” He already has earned a degree in biology and is taking post-graduate courses this fall.

The Outland Trophy winner will receive the award in a formal presentation Jan. 13 in Omaha, Neb.
