EDMONTON, Alberta — In the wake of Craig Anderson’s groin injury suffered Wednesday night at Vancouver, the Avalanche on Thursday recalled veteran goalie Jason Bacashihua from the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.
Bacashihua, 28, arrived in Edmonton and served as Peter Budaj’s backup against the Oilers. Anderson, who missed 10 games from Oct. 26 to Nov. 17 with a knee injury, is day to day with his latest setback, club spokesman Jean Martineau said.
Bacashihua has a 7-5 record, 2.27 goals- against average and .911 save percentage in 14 games with the Monsters. He has played 38 NHL games, all with St. Louis, but none since the 2006-07 season.
He has shared time in the Monsters’ net this season with John Grahame, who was returned to Lake Erie last weekend after spending three weeks with the Avalanche while Anderson was out. Grahame did not play during that stretch.
Foote out.
Defenseman Adam Foote, who also didn’t play after the first intermission in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss at Vancouver, is out indefinitely with a leg injury, Martineau said. Foote was involved in an innocent-looking collision with Canucks forward Jeff Tambellini, and Foote appeared to injure his right knee. He required help off the ice and, like Anderson, remains on the trip but is unavailable. CQ
The Avs didn’t recall a defenseman because veteran Kyle Quincey, who has been a healthy scratch the past three games after recovering from a concussion, began the trip as the club’s seventh defenseman. In fact, he participated in pregame warm-ups at Vancouver.
