We’ve all seen animal prints gone wrong.
While the trend is a fall classic right up there with tailored pieces, going overboard can be a disaster.
Designers are mixing animal prints in with camel — the season’s “it” color — and other earth tones. And while an animal print dress may be a little too daring for some, you can take your pick from inspired accessories.
Whatever you do, keep it simple, says designer Gayla Bentley. Her womenswear collection in sizes 2-28 is sold at .
“Don’t mix more than one animal print on your body at a time,” she warns. “It’s simply too much.” Here are Bentley’s five rules for wearing animal prints.
1. TAME THE ANIMAL. Try to go with a sophisticated style by grounding your animal prints with neutrals, such as black, beige and gray. Consider a leopard print top, such as Bentley’s Leo, paired with a khaki or black pencil skirt.
2. GO MINIMAL. Wear animal print in either an article of clothing or as an accessory — not both. “You want too look chic, not cheap,” Bentley said.
3. MIX IT WITH RED. Mixing animal prints with red is a fun way to spice up your outfit.
4. BE FRUGAL. If you don’t want to invest in an animal print outfit, buy one accessory, such as a wrap, a pair of gloves, a handbag or shoes.
5. FLATTER YOURSELF. Animal prints should be worn when you’re feeling confident. Walk with pride — literally.
