LINCOLN, NEB. — Recently fired Colorado coach Dan Hawkins will be watching the Buffaloes’ game at Nebraska this afternoon from a seat in the Memorial Stadium press box.

“I’m still the supporter,” Hawkins told The Denver Post.

Hawkins’ son, Cody, has been on a hot streak as CU’s starting quarterback, becoming the first player in school history to throw for three touchdowns in three consecutive games — the past two under CU interim coach Brian Cabral.

Dan Hawkins is seated in the second row of the press box, next to the CU sports information staff headed by director David Plati.

When asked by The Post about Cabral becoming a candidate for the permanent head-coaching position job after beating Iowa State and Kansas State in his first two games, Hawkins declined to comment.

“I’m just here to watch the game,” he said, adding, “Let’s let sleeping dogs lie” when asked for his observations about his former team.

Hawkins said as of now his appearance Tuesday on ESPN’s “The Experts” (11 a.m.) is his only assignment for that network.

“All their games have been scheduled (for on-site analysts),” Hawkins said. “They’re talking about me being the third guy (in the both) for games, but nothing yet.”
