A BNSF Railway train carrying coal derailed Saturday morning about 9 miles south of Pueblo, authorities say.
The Texas-bound train with 120 cars derailed from the 40th to the 70th cars about 9 a.m., BNSF spokesman Steve Forsberg said.
A cleanup is in progress, and it will take about a day to reopen the tracks, Forsberg said.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation. When the train derailed, the air brakes automatically engaged, he said.
He said it is unclear how much coal spilled from the cars, which each carry 200 tons of coal.
