Mark Grueskin, one of Colorado’s top election lawyers, has joined the politically connected law firm Rothgerber, Johnson & Lyons LLP.

Grueskin, who was named 2009 Colorado Lawyer of the Year by Law Week Colorado, is leaving Isaacson Rosenbaum PC, where he heads the firm’s Public Law & Policy practice. He was with the firm for 23 years.

“It’s a great opportunity to associate with a historical Denver law firm, which has a truly national practice,” said Grueskin, 56, who starts his new job Wednesday.

Grueskin, considered one of the state’s leading public policy attorneys, said he expects to work closely with Trey Rogers, Gov. Bill Ritter’s former chief legal counsel, and Jim Lyons. Lyons is an expert in complex business litigation and government relations, who was former general counsel to Bill Clinton when he was President-elect.

Grueskin was local counsel to the Obama for President campaign and the 2008 Democratic National Convention. He’s also been special counsel to Ritter, the State of Colorado, the Colorado General Assembly and the City and County of Denver in precedent-setting litigation.

Most recently, Grueskin successfully represented the state in a legal challenge to the legislature’s mill-levy freeze, as well as union groups who contended Amendment 54 denied them the right to make political donations.
