Mountain West Conference volleyball coaches named Colorado State’s Danielle Minch the MWC player of the year for the second year in a row Tuesday.

Minch, a senior outside hitter from Sterling, is the fourth player in MWC history to repeat as the league’s best — and third from CSU, joining Angela Knopf (2000, 2001) and Melissa Courtney (2003, 2004).

Minch led the MWC in points per set (4.6) and was third in kills per set in conference matches (3.7). She was joined on the all-MWC first team by CSU’s Evan Sanders, a junior setter from Centaurus High School, and Megan Plourde, a sophomore middle blocker. It’s the second first-team selection for both.

Wyoming’s Jodi Purdy, a sophomore outside hitter, also made the all-MWC first team.

Other first-team selections were Lisa Meeter, a New Mexico outside hitter from Colorado Springs Christian, and Sara Nehf, a Nevada-Las Vegas outside hitter from Grandview.

• Central Florida’s Nichole Riedel, a Rock Canyon graduate, was named to Conference USA’s all-freshman team as a middle blocker.

Rapids re-sign Wynne, acquire Nane.

The Rapids made two moves, signing defender Marvell Wynne to a multiyear contract and trading for Toronto’s Joseph Nane.

Wynne started 27 regular-season games and all four playoff matches for the MLS champion Rapids, primarily as a central defender, a position he had never played in his career prior to coming to Colorado.

Wynne was the first overall selection in the 2006 SuperDraft by New York. Nane is a native of Cameroon who played in 11 games for Toronto, getting eight starts in his rookie campaign. Nane played collegiately at Old Dominion. The Rapids sent their natural third-round pick in the 2012 SuperDraft to Toronto.

Fort Lewis ranked third in basketball.

The Fort Lewis women’s basketball team moved up five slots in this week’s Division II coaches poll to No. 3. The Skyhawks are 5-0.

Delta State of Mississippi is the new No. 1 after Arkansas Tech lost last week and fell from the top slot.

The Metro State men’s team (3-1) dropped out of the Division II top 25 after suffering its first loss last week.

Hogg helps Eagles win.

Adam Hogg’s hat trick, including an unassisted goal and a short-handed tally, led the Central Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles to a 5-2 win over the Odessa Jackalopes in Texas.

Matt Glasser and Daymen Rycroft also scored for Colorado, which increased its lead in the Turner Conference to five points.

Eagles goaltender Kyle Jones stopped 37-of-39 shots.

Swiss skier shines.

Didier Cuche of Switzerland turned in the fastest time during a training session for the World Cup race on the Birds of Prey downhill course at Beaver Creek.

Cuche finished Tuesday’s run in 1 minute, 47.80 seconds, more than half a second faster than Adrien Theaux of France. The Birds of Prey course fits Cuche’s aggressive style: He has finished on the podium five times.

American star Bode Miller was eighth-fastest, 1.11 seconds back.
