SAN FRANCISCO — The World Series champion San Francisco Giants have found their new shortstop, agreeing to terms with free agent Miguel Tejada on a $6.5 million, one-year contract Tuesday.
“I’m very happy and satisfied to reach an agreement with the San Francisco Giants,” Tejada said. “I take pride in having the opportunity to compete for that team.”
Tejada, who played 156 games last season with the Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres, takes over a spot filled previously by World Series MVP Edgar Renteria and Juan Uribe. Tejada batted .269 with 15 home runs and 71 RBIs between his two clubs in 2010.
Meanwhile, Uribe, a former Rockies infielder, finalized a $21 million, three-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
