Seven Aurora public schools and three administrative buildings were on lockdown for about an hour after a 17-year-old student was shot in front of Aurora Central High School Monday afternoon.
The girl’s name was not immediately available.
Aurora Police Detective Bob Friel said there is a $5,000 reward for the man who shot her, described as Hispanic, heavy-set, balding and driving a a black or primer gray Dodge Neon sedan.
Students were inside the building when the girl was shot at about 2:30 p.m., then rushed to University Hospital by friends.
Friel said the girl is in serious condition.
The incident locked down buildings at Aurora Central High, Jamaica Child Development Center, Kenton, Lansing, Peoria, Vaughn, Lyn Knoll elementary schools, as well as administrative buildings.
