ORLANDO, FLA. — Rockies manager Jim Tracy has been released from a local hospital after being diagnosed with a mild heart arrhythmia and is returning to his part-time home in Bradenton, Fla.
It had been a routine gathering with a few reporters to update them on the Rockies’ search for talent at the baseball winter meetings.
Rockies GM Dan O’Dowd was there along with Tracy, owner Dick Monfort and a handful of coaches and front-office staffers. Tracy was his usual upbeat self, inquiring about the job status of Josh McDaniels while, two time zones away, McDaniels was being summoned to Pat Bowlen’s office.
“I like the feel of this seat right here,” Tracy joked.
Seven hours later, Tracy was being treated by emergency personnel after collapsing in the lobby of the Dolphin Hotel on the grounds of Disneyworld.
He spent the night at a local hospital and, according to team spokesman Jay Alves, was released midday after resting comfortably this morning.
Tracy, who turns 55 on Dec. 31, is a picture of health. He’s still lean, as he was when he played two partial seasons with the Cubs in the early 1980s. He has no history of significant health issues.
