FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Colorado State University junior has been hospitalized for a meningococcal disease that might be linked to other cases, including four deaths.
The Coloradoan reports that the man is in his 20s and has meningococcal sepsis, the blood infection that killed Colorado State student Christina Adame (Ah-Dom-aye) in October.
Adrienne LeBailly of the Larimer County Department of Health says the man is “doing OK.” Health officials don’t know if his strain of meningococcal bacteria is the same one that infected Adame and three men who became ill and died after playing in a hockey game in Fort Collins in June.
The strain, known as Group C, was originally traced to a Denver college student.
The bacteria causes meningitis and sepsis.
