Three Fort Collins police officers have been placed on administrative leave after a man was fatally shot while the officers attempted to serve a warrant late Wednesday night.

The man was shot at about 11 p.m. when officers went to an address in the 600 block of Alpert Court to serve the warrant, Fort Collins police spokeswoman Rita Davis said.

Davis said that police had gone to the home after receiving information that there was a wanted fugitive there. She said they were attempting to serve warrants for burglary/menacing, escape from Community Corrections, theft and eluding — all felonies.

When officers made contact with the suspect, he made a threatening move towards the officers and the officers fired their weapons, Davis said. He was hit multiple times, she said.

The male suspect was taken to the Medical Center of Rockies where he died, according to Davis.

None of the officers were injured, Davis said.

Davis said that the shooting took place outside a four-unit apartment building.

Davis said it is the policy of the Fort Collins Police department to place any officer involved in a shooting on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The identities of the man who died and the officers are not being released.
