this week named Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family president and chief executive Jim Daly one of the most influential conservative Christians in the United States.
While Focus founder James Dobson remains an important opinion-maker, Newsweek said, the second generation of the religious right, which is more strategically and ideologically diverse, is gaining influence. Daly, while still a hard-line opponent of abortion and same-sex marriage, is less overtly political at the Focus helm, which the magazine said remains “an immensely powerful evangelical organization.”
Focus on the Family also announced this week it will radio broadcast Daly’s interview with former President George W. Bush about family and faith Tuesday and Wednesday.
Also included on Newsweek’s list was Tony Perkins, president of the conservative think tank the Family Research Council, also founded by Dobson. Electa Draper, The Denver Post
