Nelson Spruce, who caught a combined 36 touchdown passes during his junior and senior seasons of high school, became the first wide receiver to commit to Colorado during the Jon Embree coaching era.

Spruce, a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder from Westlake High School in Westlake Village, Calif., about 40 miles from Los Angeles, is a three-star prospect by and . He turned down offers from Air Force, Colorado State, Hawaii, San Diego State and Washington State, among others, according to recruiting websites.

Spruce had 73 catches for 1,292 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, following a junior season in which he had 65 catches, 1,325 yards (20.4 yards per catch) and 18 touchdowns.

Pioneers sweep swim meets.

The University of Denver swim teams swept their duals at the FAU Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. The DU women defeated Florida Atlantic 200-94, Rice 146.5-141.5 and Cincinnati 192-108. The Pioneers men downed FAU 155-133, Cincinnati 222-58 and Air Force 215.5-64.5.

DU women release lacrosse schedule.

The DU women’s lacrosse team will face six Top 20 teams from last year, including a home date with Final Four participant North Carolina on March 7.
