“Easy A”
*** (out of 4)
Emma Stone is the sparkling gem in Will Gluck’s teen jaunt — written by Bert V. Royal — about a good girl who gets a bad reputation after she lets a false rumor go viral and then provides a cover for a gay classmate. Call it 1980s teen drama meets the age of social networking. John Hughes would (and Mark Zuckerberg should) be proud. PG-13. 1 hour 30 minutes. Lisa Kennedy
“Salt”
*** (out of 4)
Angelina Jolie and director Phillip Noyce conspire brilliantly in what’s sure to be the start of a fine franchise affair. Is fugitive Evelyn Salt a CIA operative or a Russian mole? Is she on the lam to clear her name or on the job to set off a Russian-U.S. conflagration? Star and director do taut work keeping us guessing. With Liev Schreiber as Salt’s trusting boss, the high-octane fueled ride also gives a nod to thrillers about deeply programmed spies. (Schreiber portrayed the title character in the “Manchurian Candidate” remake). Chiwetel Ejiofor also stars. PG-13. 1 hour 30 minutes.Kennedy
“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”
Michael Douglas returns as Gordon Gekko, released from prison. He’s alienated from his daughter (Carey Mulligan) and engaged in a dance of quid pro quo with future son-in-law Jake (Shia LaBeouf). Josh Brolin, Eli Wallach, Frank Langella and Susan Sarandon also star in this tale of payback. PG-13. 2 hours 13 minutes. Kennedy
