TEHRAN, Iran — A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck southeastern Iran late Monday, killing six people and injuring 21 others, Iranian state TV reported. The TV report said the tremor also damaged houses and cut off telephone lines.

The report said the quake hit Hosseinabad, a town in southeastern Iran, at 10:12 p.m. local time. The area is close to the city of Bam, site of a devastating 2003 earthquake of similar strength that killed more than 26,000 people.
