Mullen High School’s Dave Logan, one of Colorado’s greatest athletes and a six- time championship-winning high school coach, passed Saturday on an offer to become the head football coach at the University of Northern Colorado.
Logan, who has led Mullen to the past three Class 5A titles as well as a 33-game winning streak, turned down a four-year offer, according to a source.
Logan was unavailable via telephone or text-message.
Logan was The Denver Post Gold Helmet winner in 1971 while at Wheat Ridge. He starred at the University of Colorado, played in the NFL for nine seasons and began coaching in 1993 at Arvada West. The Wildcats won the 1997 state title. He also led Chatfield to the 2001 championship — the Chargers were undefeated — and his Mullen teams have made at least the semifinals since 2003.
Logan, the longtime radio voice of the Broncos who also has a daily radio show, is 192-40 overall.
